Kitsilano Near Alma St: Amenities and Information
Kitsilano has many different types of neighbourhoods, and the area near Alma St at the Western edge of Kitsilano is one of the good ones. This neighbourhood doesn’t have an exact starting point, but I would imagine that it would be around the 3000-Block of Kitsilano, which is at Macdonald.
Real Estate Near Alma St in Kits
Real Estate in this area, like most areas of Kitsilano, is a mix of houses, multi-unit houses (townhomes and half duplexes) and condos. The condos generally sit on the edge of the busy roads – West Broadway and West 4th Ave above the retail space – with new buildings built in the last few years and some older buildings from the 1980’s. The houses, especially those North of 4th Ave, will be expensive (think over $1.5-million for a decent house, and it goes up from there) with the condos coming in anywhere from just under $300,000 and up. There are a lot of units in this neighbourhood that look like their single detached homes, but in reality, are half duplexes or multi unit homes.
Amenities Near Alma St in Kits
Those living near Alma St in Kitsilano know that they are the closest folks to Jericho Beach, the Royal Van Yacht Club and Jericho Tennis Club. Jericho Beach is an amazing destination in the spring and summer thanks to the large beach and plethora of grassy areas that people fill with picnics in the summer, whereas the social clubs are always great if you’re a member.
There are great bike paths that will take you east through Kitsilano to East Van or Downtown, and West to UBC, and the bus transit makes a lot of stops along the way. Though they haven’t started construction, there might be a light rail line or subway connecting Cambie St to the West End of Kitsilano (though it also might stop at Arbutus – we’ll have to wait to find out).
Restaurants and Shops Near Alma in Kits
On West 4th Ave, there isn’t much going on in terms of restaurants and amenities until about Blenheim where you can find the Displace Hashery (and one of the best burgers in Vancouver!), and then from there heading West you’ll find some more restaurants, like Aphrodite’s Cafe and Pie Shop (delicious, seriously), La Quercia (one of the best Italian restaurants in Vancouver, seriously) and Double DD Pizza, which is always satisfying. If you want to work off some of these meals, you can find runners and gym wear at Forerunners and LadySport, and you can buy your groceries at Marketplace IGA. There’s a wine store near Alma, with a beer and liquor store in the Jericho Village Shopping Plaza (along with a No Frills).
West Broadway has it’s own things going on from Macdonald west to Alma, with a number of pubs and bars (remember, we’re getting closer to UBC here), lots of restaurants (including asian cuisine, a delicious vegan restaurant in Dharma Kitchen, Baru Latino nearby and more) as well as a range of stores from clothing shops to liquor stores to hobby shops.
Given the location right next to Point Grey, those living close to Alma also have the benefit of going to West 10th Ave on the west side of Alma to enjoy the shops and restaurants there. It’s a little quieter than Broadway but just as nice.
